Food for Liturgical Thought

"It is a scandal within Christianity that Easter can be reduced to a "celebration" that lasts a few hours on one Sunday morning, while Christmas songs are piped into our ears from mid-October on."

I read the article, I followed some links, and I have all sorts of conflicting thoughts going around my head. So I'll say a thing or two and then go think smore more...

I think there's more than one Christmas out there. There's the sort of historical religious one, and the societal one. There's a similar sort of thing that goes on with Halloween... it's not what it was originally meant to be.

And so while I think from a spiritual perspective, The Advent Conspiracy is not a bad thing, I also hope there's a realization that everyone's Christmas is not the same Christmas.

However, this is a great argument to tell cashiers to say, "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". At least until the 25th!

I don't know, I can't get all these thoughts to go all cohesivey. I'll try to get back to you...

I guess I have come to the realization that most of us can celebrate Christmas (and Easter) all year long. If some want to just celebrate on just two Sundays I am okay with that :)

Merry Christmas Andy!

Are we ranking holy days, or lamenting the lack of Easter celebrations? Perhaps a greater travesty is the lack of theological understanding and subsequent celebration of the ascension. However, unless we get Christmas and the incarnation right, nothing else really matters. It is the epistemological significance of the homoousion.

Patrick,
Over half of the words you used are above my vocabulary; however, I know that it has to be genius...pure genius...
