Rest Eternal

Requiem eternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Te decet hymnus, Deus in Sion
et tibi reddetur votum
in Jerusalem.
Exaudi orationem meam,
ad te omnis caro veniet.

Kyrie eleison.
Christe eleison.
Kyrie eleison.

I don't know Latin very well (actually, hardly at all) but something about those words have hit me harder than anything else I've read on the subject.

Maybe it is because words that I do understand cannot begin to describe what happened or how it makes me feel.

Thank you for posting it.

We sang these words in their Rutter Requiem setting last Sunday. Had no idea how applicable they would be the next day.

It's a shame that I get to use my 3 years of Latin (taught by an ex-Jesuit)in this context.
